Millions of Americans, including many Unalaskans, have already cast their ballots through early voting or are heading to the polls this Election Day. As part of a statewide report on Alaska's election, KUCB's Andy Lusk visited the Unalaska Senior Center in late October to hear from locals about their top voting issues.

In this episode of "Island Interviews," City Clerk Estkarlen Magdaong discusses what's on the primary ballot this year, how this election is part of upcoming elections such as the municipal and general elections, and how people in Unalaska can vote.

Two candidates are going into a runoff after no one won outright on Oct. 3.

Six candidates will be running for five open seats in Unalaska’s upcoming general municipal election, according to the city. The filing period to declare candidacy in this year’s local election closed Monday.

The filing period to declare candidacy in the 2022 Unalaska Municipal Election has closed. In all, eight people signed up to run in the Oct. 4 election.

The City of Unalaska will hold a Local General Election on Oct. 4. On the ballot this year is Mayor (presently Vince Tutiakoff), two City Council Members (seats held by Darin Nicholson and Daneen Looby), and two School Board Members (seats held by Bob Cummings and Nicole Bice). Deadline to declare candidacy is Monday, Aug. 22, 2022
