The Unalaska City School Board has approved an agreement with local service provider TelAlaska to provide limited remote learning services for students and staff in the district.

On Friday, Unalaska's swim team held a closed-door swim meet with attendees permitted only by reservation. The team has been unable to host or participate in normal swim meets due to COVID-19 health regulations. But students, coaches, captains, and family members gathered—at safe distances—to cheer the team on for the first and possibly only time this season.

Despite COVID-19 health regulations that stopped Unalaska's cross country team from traveling, the school district still moved forward with the season and students were able to compete with one another on the island and even virtually against some teams throughout the state.

And, along with sunshine, numerous community members showed up at the team's final meet on Saturday to show support as several runners recorded new personal records.

At its meeting on Wednesday, the Unalaska City School Board accepted the resignation of chair member Josh Good at seat D.

It was the final meeting for both Good—who is moving off island—and board member Cherry Tan, whose seat is up for election on Oct. 6

The board accepted Good's resignation as of Sept. 21 and will develop a plan to fill the vacant seat at its meeting next month.
