After several days of waiting out a storm near Unalaska, the Pan Viva is on the move and headed to its destination port in Washington State. The U.S. Coast Guard order which kept the vessel in place for most of Monday has been lifted.

The U.S. Coast Guard removed four crew members from the Pan Viva Saturday afternoon. The distressed 738-foot Panama-flagged cargo ship is anchored near Constantine Bay in Unalaska. The tugboat Gretchen Dunlap is standing by to assist the ship, according to several sources working on the response.

Malepeai Mamea’s family launched an online fundraiser about five days ago. As of Tuesday morning, more than 75 donors had contributed. The family’s goal is to raise $10,000 to help transport Malepeai Mamea’s body to Seattle and lay her to rest there.

Chief Petty Officer Jeffrey Paul DeRonde, 34, passed away in a rafting accident on Eagle River near Juneau on Sept. 5, 2021. He was an avid outdoorsman, and in a continuous quest for adventure, he chose assignments in Kodiak, Alaska; Long Beach, California; Afghanistan; Portland, Oregon; Dutch Harbor, Alaska; and Juneau, Alaska. Jeff was an active-duty officer in the Coast Guard at the time of his death having served for 16 years.
