A 600-foot cargo ship that caught fire June 3 near the remote Aleutian island of Adak is still burning. The crew of the Morning Midas was rescued with no injuries, but the ship is adrift in the North Pacific with potentially hazardous cargo aboard.

Unalaska's U.S. Coast Guard Marine Safety Unit is investigating a fishing vessel that ran aground near Iliuliuk Bay. The F/V Northern Endurance was partially beached about three miles from downtown Unalaska, near Little Priest Rock on Thursday and was pulled free by the emergency response and salvage company Resolve Marine Friday morning around 9 a.m., according to Commanding Officer Lt. Lawrence Schalles.

A cargo ship carrying lithium-ion batteries reported a cargo fire Thursday morning, and is currently sitting outside of Unalaska Bay while the Coast Guard works to stabilize the vessel. As of Friday afternoon, the fire was contained but still burning.

Resolve Marine has acquired longstanding local diving company MAC Enterprises. In a statement released Monday, the international marine salvage company announced that it’s bringing MAC into the fold of its Alaska services. MAC Enterprises was founded in 1982 by local Jimmer McDonald. The Unalaska company provides a number of marine services to the nation’s top fishing port, including underwater welding, charters and inspections.
