Unalaska's Cross Country Team Competes In Alaska State Preview

David Gibson

Unalaska's cross country team had another great weekend of racing. The young Raider team traveled to the state preview race last weekend at Bartlett High School in Anchorage.

The race is the first look at the course where the state championship will be run in October, attended predominantly by the larger 4A schools. The boys placed 12th, beating out three of the larger schools in the state.

The boys were led once again by senior Mike Pereat with a season personal record (PR) of 18:20. He was followed by freshmen Jonathane Pereat, who posted a career PR of 19:03. After that, sophomore Herwin Riodil finished in 20:08, followed by freshmen Eldred Paradeza with a career PR of 21:35 and freshmen KC Balbarino with a career PR of 22:36. Freshmen Miguel Torres also ran a career PR time in 23:35, while senior Maverick Castillo ran a time of 25:29.

Locally, the team hosted another "Raiders Run for Fun" 5K on Friday afternoon, during which a lot of the younger runners also ran season and career PRs. Next up, the Raiders will travel to the Palmer Invite on Sept. 7.

The next installment of "Raiders Run for Fun" 5K will also be on Friday, Sept. 6. The race is open to the public and starts at 4 p.m. at Tutiakoff Field.
