Thirty-eight athletes participated in the two-mile Summer Solstice Run last Friday, starting at the Carl E. Moses Boat Harbor.
For the first time in several years, the sun made a prominent showing for the race, organized by Unalaska's Department of Parks, Culture, and Recreation.
PCR Sports Recreation Coordinator Chris DiGiro said the weather was "fairly warm" and that the majority of racers signed up beforehand, which was helpful for the staff.
"It really helps make on-site registration quicker for everybody," said DiGiro.
As the racers made their way around the coast of Little South America, family and friends watched, cheering as they crossed the finish line.
DiGiro thanked the fire, EMS, and patrol divisions of Unalaska's Department of Public Safety for being on-site and available to help, along with the Department of Ports and Harbors for welcoming runners to the harbor.
