Unalaska's municipal election is scheduled for Oct. 6.
The city ballot, finalized Tuesday, shows the candidates vying for four open positions on the school board and City Council.
Incumbent Thomas Bell is running for City Council seat B against Brenda Baker. Whereas Baker — who works for Aleutian Freight Services and North Port Rentals — is a newcomer to local politics, Bell has held seat B since councilors appointed him to the seat in January, after Jim Fitch resigned from the council about two years into his three-year term.
Unalaska's only other contested race centers on school board seat B.
The city's fire chief, Patrick Shipp, and Jolene Longo — a parent to children at both of Unalaska's schools and a newcomer to local politics — are vying for the seat currently held by Cherry Tan, who did not file to run for reelection.
Meanwhile, two Unalaskans are running unopposed in the remaining races:
- Dennis Robinson is running for reelection at City Council seat E.
- And Fernando Barrera is running for reelection at school board seat E.
Unalaskans must register to vote by Sept. 6 — one month before the polls open. They can do so at City Hall or online.
KUCB will also host its annual Candidates Forum in late September.
