GCI customers in Unalaska continue to experience internet and mobile service interruptions, including impacts to wireless voice and 911 calling. A damaged section of underwater fiber will require a specialized vessel to repair the fiber. GCI crews are working to restore some services over alternate technologies until repairs are complete.

Docked In Unalaska, Navy's USS Somerset To Open Friday For Public Tours

The U.S. Navy warship USS Somerset has docked in Unalaska. Despite Navy officials' earlier concerns about limited space onboard, the vessel will be open Friday for public tours.

Unalaskans are invited to park their cars and line up at the city dock from 2 to 7 p.m. After clearing a security checkpoint, they'll be taken for tours in groups of 20.

Officials said groups should leave weapons at home, wear closed-toed shoes, and be prepared to climb stairs and carry small children. While cameras are welcome, guides may point out some sights that are off-limits to photography.

The Somerset is passing through port after participating in large-scale Arctic training exercises on Adak Island.

The 684-foot vessel is an amphibious transport dock ship homeported in San Diego, California. It houses about 1,000 members of the Navy and U.S. Marine Corps, along with a number of helicopters, landing craft, and amphibious vehicles.
