Unalaska resident named interim director of UAF Bristol Bay Campus

The University of Alaska Fairbanks has named Unalaska’s Alyssa McDonald as interim director of the Bristol Bay Campus in Dillingham. McDonald took over on Jan. 11 and will serve until a permanent director is found.

Part of the University of Alaska Fairbanks’ Bristol Bay campus, the Unalaska Learning Center is offering free workshops on April 21 and 22.

The Unalaska Learning Center is hosting a grand opening for its new building this weekend. Part of the University of Alaska Fairbanks’ Bristol Bay campus, the center was previously located next to the high school’s woodshop. Now, it’s in the former alternative education building. "We have this large open space — much more welcoming," said Jill Spetz, instructional services manager for the center.

Last week, the UAF Bristol Bay Campus held its first in-person course in Unalaska since last September. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, local courses have been completely virtual over the past year.
