‘Something special’: Aleutian Electrocution organizers prepare for this year's festival

Tsunami warning not in effect for Unalaska following magnitude-7.2 earthquake near Sand Point

The Museum of the Aleutians is sponsoring a contest in which Alaska students can win cash prizes for answering questions about Benny Benson, the Unangax̂ teenager who created Alaska’s state flag in 1927.
Munitions experts say possible explosive device near S-curves was an antique vehicle part
Munitions experts responded to a possible unexploded device in downtown Unalaska, instead finding what appeared to be a part from an antique vehicle. The bomb disposal team from Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson traveled to Unalaska to inspect a device that a hiker had found embedded in the shore near the S-curves.
In Memoriam: Jeff Currier
Former Unalaska public works director Jeff Currier passed away unexpectedly on June 25th in his Anchorage home. The Curriers moved to Unalaska in 1979 and made a home here for nearly a decade. Moving to Unalaska started an adventure that provided incredible opportunities, valued friendships, and a way of life that the Curriers say offered each of them so very much.
Unalaska celebrates Fourth of July with annual parade
This year’s theme was “National Treasure,” and participants incorporated it into their floats. In all, 17 cars, one boat and even a Coast Guard helicopter participated in the festivities.
