State authorities have charged a fisherman with first-degree felony assault after he allegedly stabbed another crewman on the F/V Aleutian Sable and fled the crime scene.
In the indictment, police said Anthony M. Cervantes, 27, got into an argument with Elisha M. Singell while they were drinking on the boat on March 16.
Witnesses told police that Cervantes went to the galley, grabbed a knife, and slashed it at his roommate, Edgar Solis, who avoided the weapon. Soon after, they found Singell wounded on deck with an eight-inch laceration to his abdomen.
Police said Cervantes fled and was found a half-mile from the vessel. He told investigators that he doesn’t remember holding a knife or stabbing anyone.
Cervantes, a Las Vegas resident, is in custody at the Anchorage jail. His next court appearance is April 11.
Singell underwent surgery in Anchorage after being medevaced from Unalaska.
