Unalaska's post office is back to full service.
This change comes almost two years after the U.S. Postal Service cut hours at the Unalaska branch due to "staffing shortages" and "reduced customer numbers."
Having hired new staff, post office officials say counter service is open for normal operations and package pickup Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., except for an employee lunch break from 11 a.m. to noon.
The package pickup window is also open Saturday from noon to 4 p.m.
If the Unalaska post office is able to hire one more employee, the branch will eliminate its weekday lunch closure. At this point, officials say there are no plans to close the branch.
Starting June 3, the Dutch Harbor post office will no longer have a midday closure for lunch. The branch will be open continuously Tuesday-Thursday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Correction: This story previously misstated the hours of the Dutch Harbor post office. The information has been corrected above.
