The Unalaska post office is flying a new American flag, just days after its original red, white, and blue banner was stolen.
Postmaster Jamesa Marino-Tickle said the replacement was hoisted Friday, thanks to a donation from Mayor Frank Kelty.
"We've had so much positive feedback and support from the community," she said, in response to the theft.
The 4-by-10-foot flag was cut from its rope Monday night, about a month after it was hoisted for Memorial Day. Before that, Marino-Tickle said the flag pole had stood bare for more than a decade.
"It was a sense of pride, having this flag up at long last after 15-plus years," she said. "Then it was a bit devastating to note that someone had just gone and helped themselves to it."
She said the culprit can return the original flag to the post office, no questions asked.
