School Board Seat A: Kerry Mahoney

Kerry Mahoney, candidate for school board seat A
Kerry Mahoney, candidate for school board seat A

My name is Kerry Mahoney, and I’m running for School Board seat A. My husband Tim and I moved here from Oregon 27 years ago, and have been so happy to have made it our home.

I grew up admiring and watching my mom burn the midnight oil grading tests and papers at our dining room table. Having a mom who was a high school English teacher was a definite advantage to me. I grew up in a home where education was highly valued, with parents who were interested and involved in the education I was receiving. As a parent, I have continued to instill the value of education in my own children. Learning has been a family pastime in our home. I was fortunate to be able to home-school our four children and have spent countless hours myself at the dining room table creating lesson plans, researching curriculum, and deciding how best to implement the ideas and integrate the topics.

After many years of strictly home-schooling, we decided to make the transition to public school in the high school years. We have not been disappointed in this decision. I appreciate the positive flow of communication I have had with the administration when I’ve needed help or support.

As a member of the school board I know I can bring a lot to the table, and acknowledge that there will be a lot to learn. Learning is the key word here. I am passionate about helping families, students, and staff thrive in an environment where learning is the priority.
