Today is Mike Holman’s last day on the job.
Unalaska’s police chief and director of public safety is retiring after 23 years with the department.
Holman has not responded to multiple requests for comment.
Until the city hires his full-time replacement, officials have appointed Deputy Police Chief Jennifer Shockley to serve as acting director.
She’s already held the role a handful of times during her 18-year tenure with the Department of Public Safety. She said it means spending more of her time budgeting and interacting with the City Council.
“Those will be areas that I’ve had not no exposure, but limited exposure to," she said. "Those are the areas that’ll be challenging and probably have some steep learning curves.”
Shockley starts Thursday as acting director.
