KUCB Ramps Up For Annual 24-Hour Pledge Drive

Maggie Nelson/KUCB

In the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, life has been even more unpredictable than it normally is on a remote Aleutian island. Daily routines from going to school to trips to the grocery store have been disrupted, and here at KUCB, we understand how challenging that has been. We are honored that the community has stood by us during these unprecedented times as we worked to bring you novel and unique forms of entertainment and news.

The disruption caused by the pandemic has highlighted how important public media is for the Unalaska community, from providing things like local daily news, to public service announcements and tsunami warnings, to coverage of community art shows. We have been working extra hard this year to keep Unalaskans informed and connected through access to reliable, relevant, and timely local news and entertainment. And now is your chance to show your support for KUCB!

Our 24-hour pledge drive will take place on Friday, Oct. 9 from 12 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. This year we are hoping to raise $35,000.

Due to local COVID-19 social distancing mandates, things will look a little differently this year. KUCB will not be open to the public during the pledge drive, but community members are encouraged to call in or visit our website to donate anytime on Friday. All pledge drive thank you gifts, including KUCB sweatshirts, will be available for pickup during our curbside pickup events, happening Friday, Oct. 16 and 23.

We invite you to renew your commitment to public media and make a contribution during our fundraiser. As always, a pledge of any amount makes you a member of KUCB. This year we are offering several contribution thank you gifts:

  • For every $25 donation, participants will be entered into a drawing for a 100GB OptimEra WiFi card as well as a drawing for an Alaska Airlines plane ticket
  • A pledge of $125 gets you a limited edition 2020 KUCB hoodie AND a 5GB OptimERA WiFi card
  • Donations of $500 or more will also receive a 10GB OptimEra WiFi card
  • Pledges of any amount will receive a limited edition 2020 KUCB sticker

In addition to our pledge drive Friday, we are also hosting a virtual Wear 'n Share event! On Friday, show your support by sporting your vintage KUCB gear. Then post a picture on social media—Instagram or Facebook—and tag us @kucb.unalaska and you will be entered into a drawing for a 5GB OptimERA WiFi card.

When you make a contribution during our pledge drive, you're helping bring news, information, and entertainment to Unalaska. Thank you for supporting community radio!
