City officials reported a new positive case of COVID-19 in Unalaska Friday, bringing the positive local case count to 98.

The individual who tested positive is a family member of an employee of Alyeska Seafoods, one of four fish processing plants in Unalaska.

The city reports that the family member arrived in Unalaska on August 11, and in accordance with the company's COVID-19 mitigation plan, went immediately into quarantine.

The Unalaska City Council is standing by its request that Congress place restrictions on a troubled factory trawler commissioned by Fishermen’s Finest.

The company urged councilors earlier this month to rescind a letter they sent to Alaska’s Congressional delegation.
