Rare hot weather encouraged record participation at the Aleutian Tundra Golf Classic.
More than 20 teams teed off in the tundra last weekend in Unalaska's annual golf tournament. The tournament includes nine holes of golf each day.
Two teams tied as this year's tournament champs. Based on the honor system and score cards turned in at the end of the second day, North Pacific Fuel and Matson tied by scoring 57, followed closely by the Babymakers at 61. Each of the four members on the winning teams will receive 10GB of OptimERA Wi-Fi.
This year's Tundra Golf Classic also featured a marshmallow long drive competition, which went to Mike Hanson at an astounding 168 feet, a full 57 feet longer than last year's winner. Hanson claimed a 20GB Wi-Fi card from OptimERA.
Closest to the Pin was awarded to Albert Magalong, for his shot at 10 feet, 6 inches from the pin at hole one.
All of the teams showed great spirit, but this year's prize went to Golfers Against Sanity for their clever custom t-shirts and score of 137. Honorable mention goes to the Babymakers, who wore a total of four infants.
The annual Tundra Golf Classic is a fundraiser for Unalaska Community Broadcasting. A preliminary count shows the event brought in more than $11,000 from sponsorships, team fees, and skills contests.
