Unalaska’s elementary school principal has been placed on paid administrative leave, a school board official confirmed Thursday. But the district remains tight-lipped about why or when she’ll be back.
“[LaVettra Clayton] was placed on paid administrative leave on Friday, Aug. 27 by the superintendent,” Interim School Board President Carlos Tayag said in a text. “There has been no disciplinary action taken.”
School Superintendent Robbie Swint Jr. declined to comment, saying it was a personnel matter.
“I don't have anything to say about any of the questions that you asked or any other question that you might want to ask,” he told KUCB.
Teachers, High School Principal Jim Wilson and Swint are currently running the elementary school, he added.
The school board held a special meeting Monday that pertained to personnel and board superintendent relations. But the single agenda item was held in executive session, which was closed to the public.
Clayton said she couldn’t discuss her administrative leave. The new elementary principal was hired this spring with a salary of $92,000.
