Over fifty Unalaskans gathered last Saturday at 2pm at the Tutiakoff Field to participate in the 2018 Color Run.
This year, Louella Tan of the Youth Alliance for a Healthier Alaska helped organize the run with D Kirchhofer from Unalaskans Against Sexual Assault & Family Violence. The event was also sponsored by the Iliuliuk Family & Health Services, and the Aleutian Pribilof Islands Association. Prizes for the event were donated by OptimERA.
Volunteers from the Business Professionals of American and also from Teen Council doused runners with generous amounts of powered colors as they ran from the field to Alyeska and back.
Tan and Kirchhofer said that this year, the focus of the run was to promote mental health. At each stop, runners could read large posters with tips about sleep, getting outside regularly, maintaining a balanced diet and more.
At the end of the race, participants answered a few simple questions about the mental health tips and were entered into a raffle for various amounts of OptimERA wifi.
Overall, the run was a great success!
