Go Raiders! Team Heads To State Championship

  The Unalaska boys and girls Raiders basketball teams met with success over the weekend at the 2016 SouthWest Conference Regional Tournament. The boys won first place, the girls won third place and both won the academic award.

On Saturday, the boys played Bristol Bay for the regional championship title; they won 56 to 12. Coach Kent Russell says the team started the game over-anxious on offense, but after the first quarter they began to relax, settle into the game and play tough defense.

Afterwards, the team reenacted a time-honored custom.

"Cutting down the net is a tradition in basketball when a team wins a regional championship or a state championship, each team member gets a piece of the net to represent the team's accomplishment," Russell said.
