U.S. Senator Dan Sullivan is coming to Unalaska.
Mayor Shirley Marquardt made the announcement at Tuesday night's City Council meeting.
She said Sullivan's three-day visit later this month will be the Republican senator's first time on the island.
"He's visiting August 22-24, so that's a really good chunk of time," she said.
Marquardt said the city is planning a public reception where Sullivan can meet with the community as well as private dinner between the senator and the City Council.
Sullivan's trip will come one week after Alaska's primary election, although the freshmen senator won't be on the ballot. He has more than four years left in his term.
Meanwhile, a new Unalaska police officer is just starting his own his term. Marquardt swore in OfficerToeasoTolai at Tuesday's meeting.
The City Council will meet for its next regular session on August 23.
