The 2019 Bobby Johnson Summer Bay Classic took place Saturday, August 10th beginning at the intersection in front of the community center. This annual half marathon is a memorial to the late Bobby Johnson and this year eight runners and three cyclists participated.
The weather was slightly foggy but relatively warm for athletes as they made their way over Overland Drive and around Summer Bay Lake. The race began at 2pm for the long distance runners. The first place runner finished in a little over an hour and 52 minutes.
The cyclists followed the same course as the runners, and they began their race at 3pm. The fastest biker finished in just under 55 minutes.

This year, the PCR added a 5K run and a 10K run, which began at 3pm in the same location.
The finish line for the half marathon was on Bayview Avenue on front beach, and official times from the event can be found below.
Thanks to the City of Unalaska Department of Parks, Culture, and Recreation for organizing the event, and check the KUCB Facebook Page for a video from the event on Wednesday, Aug. 14.
