The Unalaska City School High School Band secured second place overall in the AASA Region II Aurora Music Festival last week, led by band teacher Shannon Spring. The Aurora Music Festival is an annual event that includes students from fifteen different high schools from fourteen communities across the State. This year, the festival was at Nenana City School and ran from April 11th- April 13th.
The UCSD band performed a song for the opening concert, three pieces for adjudication, and seven pieces combined with all of the band members from all of the other schools.
This year, Xavia Valverde, Kalista Decker and Shane Morris received the Honor Band First Chair Award and participated in the Honor Band performance on the final day of the festival. Valverde plays the bass clarinet, Decker plays the baritone saxophone and Morris plays the tuba.

Additionally, three UCSD soloists qualified for the State Competition on May 10th at UAA.
Alto saxophonist Amiel Fernandez and pianists Jadrey Renon and Lily Mahoney will travel to Anchorage to compete against others from around the state. Congratulations Raiders!
