We had a rockin' good time at KUCB's annual One Day Radio Pledge Drive on Friday, October 9! This year's theme was "pirate radio," with our volunteers hijacking the airwaves all day and all night, playing their favorite tunes and taking requests. Besides the fun at the studio, staff and volunteers were out and about at the Grand Aleutian Hotel, Safeway, and The Norwegian Rat Saloon, taking pledges and photographing members with our very cool life sized pirate (thanks to art teacher Finn and volunteers)! Rodrigo Caudillo designed this year's awesome hoodie, carrying on the theme, which we also used for bumper stickers and temporary tattoos. Thanks, Rodrigo!
Thanks to our Board, our many volunteers at the mic and elsewhere, our bakers who kept us supplied with more food than we could ever eat, and to all of you who pledged at any level to support community radio in Unalaska. We couldn't provide our programs and services without you!
Our current total stands at nearly $22,000, including a generous donation of $2020 from UniSea Hospitality which again matched all UniSea employee pledges. Thanks very much to Laurie Smith and the Hospitality Division! We are still a little short of our goal of $23,000, so if you missed the pledge drive, it's not too late--you can still donate any time on the website at www.kucb.org or by calling us at 581-1888 during business hours.
Congratulations to Zara Kochuten, who won the round trip Alaska Airlines plane ticket in our membership drawing!
Thanks again, Unalaska--we know we can always count on you!
