The 2016 Unalaska Polar Bear Run fell on Valentine's Day this year and attracted over 50 participants. Runners started gathering around 12:30 pm at the starting line on Front Beach Road, warming up and conversing with fellow competitors. Shortly after one, the race began and the runners took off on a 5-K course down Summer Bay Road.
Among the 54 registered runners, the top four winners were Justin Pacansky in the men's division; Beatriz Dietrick in the women's division; Daniel Peters got first place in the teen boy division and Mercedez Caudillo won first place teen girl. Liam Robinson and Reena Bucaneg were the top winners in the youth boy and youth girl divisions.
The winds were calm and the rain stayed away. Runners dressed lightly and ran quickly, with the first finisher coming in just under twenty minutes.
