U.S. Unemployment at 15-Year High
The Labor Department says the U.S. economy lost more than a half-million jobs in November. It was the steepest drop in nearly a quarter-century. Figures show that 533,000 jobs were lost last month, pushing the unemployment rate to 6.7 percent. That's a 15-year high. It's proof that the recession, already a year old, is getting deeper.

O.J. Simpson To Be Sentenced In Oct. Conviction
O.J. Simpson is scheduled to be sentenced Friday in Las Vegas for his conviction on felony charges, including kidnapping, in a robbery committed last year. The former football and movie star â acquitted of murdering his ex-wife, Nicole, and her friend Ron Goldman 13 years ago â could get up to life in prison.

Foreign Markets Follow Wall Street's Plunge
Japan's main index fell more than 6 percent. South Korea was down more than 3 percent. Hong Kong's main stock average fell nearly 5 percent, partly on grim economic news out of China. The drop in world markets follows a nearly 8 percent plunge in the Dow, after the National Bureau of Economic Research issued a report declaring that the U.S. officially is in recession.

Indian Commandos Try To Oust Gunmen
Gunmen in Mumbai are thought to still be holding a number of foreign hostages. Indian commandos have been trading fire with the attackers. On Wednesday, gunmen armed with assault rifles and grenades fanned out across Mumbai and attacked popular tourist sites, including the city's top two luxury hotels.
