Ounalashka Corp. to receive $1 million for contaminated land rehabilitation
Unalaska’s Alaska Native village corporation, Ounalashka Corp., is set to receive $1 million from the federal government to clean up contaminated land. The Ounalashka Corp. said it will use the grant money to remove soils contaminated with PCBs and conduct an initial round of soil and groundwater sampling at a WWII-era warehouse.
FEMA Disaster Assistance teams visiting Crooked Creek
From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 7 and Friday, Sept. 8, representatives from FEMA, the U.S. Small Business Administration, and the Alaska Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management will be in Crooked Creek to register survivors for disaster assistance, and to answer questions about the application process and what happens next.

Bureau of Land Management headed to the Y-K Delta to visit Alaska Native Vietnam-era veterans
Eligible Alaska Native Vietnam Veteran-era veterans can apply to receive up to 160 acres of the 29.5 million acres available. This is the third time federally managed land has been offered to Alaska Native Vietnam veterans, who did not have the chance to meet an earlier deadline to select land allotments because they were serving during the Vietnam War.
