Greta Mart

  • All jurors summoned for this week's scheduled trial are off the hook. The case that was slotted for this week has been resolved. On Friday at 10 a.m., there will be a change of plea hearing for two license-related driving violations. Jurors 61 through 180 are still in the jury pool and could be called to serve later this year. Unalaska's next trial week starts on July 18.
  • The contractor working on the city's Lake and River Restoration Project says Overland Drive will remain closed through Saturday, May 21.
  • On City Hall's calendar, the Planning Commission and Historic Preservation Commission will meet this Thursday at 6 p.m.
  • There was a minor eruption detected on Pavlof Volcano last week. Over the weekend, the Alaska Volcano Observatory reports that a diffused ash cloud reached up 18,000 feet, but did not affect air traffic. The volcano has been quiet since the small eruption on Friday morning.
  • A new report by the Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute says 35 percent of Alaska's seafood exports go to China. 80 to 90 percent of those exports are sold to secondary processors who turn the seafood into finished products that are sold back to U.S., European and Japanese markets.
