Recall Of Frozen Food Sold At Unalaska Stores

If you bought bags of frozen veggies and fruit anytime in the past two years, you may want to take a look at your freezer. There's been an expansion of a recall due to the threat the products are contaminated with listeria.

The recall involves bags of frozen organic and conventionally grown vegetables and fruits processed by a company called CRF Frozen Foods. The company packages food for Safeway and other national chains.

The frozen food was marketed under brands such as O Organics, Pantry Essentials, Safeway Kitchens and Signature Kitchens - all brands sold at the Dutch Harbor Safeway store. The recalled products include 10 and 16 ounce bags of Brussels sprouts, kale, corn, mixed vegetables and blueberries. The "best by" dates on the packages range from late April 2016 to 2018.

Abe Palmer, the manager of the Dutch Harbor Safeway store, said this week that store employees had removed the products from the frozen food section.

"We've taken care of all the recalls," Palmer said.

Palmer said he couldn't elaborate and that all inquiries about recalled products must go through the company's division office in Seattle. A phone message left there was not returned.

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention says approximately 358 consumer products sold under 42 separate brand names have been recalled.

On April 25, CRF Frozen Foods stopped production at the Washington State facility where the products were packaged. The recalled food dates back to May 1, 2014.

If you have any of these items in your freezer, you can return them to Safeway for a complete refund.
