Unalaska Mayor, City Staff Win Awards

City of Unalaska

November was an award-winning month for Unalaska city staff and public officials.

Earlier this month, the city's planning director, Erin Reinders, was named 2015 Planner of the Year. The Alaska Chapter of the American Planning Association selected Reinders and her work from among dozens of planners around the state. Unalaska's planning administrator, Anthony Grande, also received an award from the APA's Alaska chapter. Grande was selected as this year's Emerging Planner of the Year.

The Planning Department as a whole won recognition for recent projects. The department's latest edition of the Unalaska Land Use Plan won the APA's Alaska Chapter Small Town Planning Project of the Year.

At last week's city council meeting, council member Roger Rowland recognized that Unalaska Mayor Shirley Marquardt was selected for the 2015 Vic Fischer Local Government Leadership award. That award, given by the Alaska Municipal League, celebrates Alaskan officials on a local level. Marquardt is a past president of the Alaska Municipal League. The League's local government conference was held in mid-November and Marquardt was presented the award at a banquet in Anchorage on Nov. 19.
