UCSD Student of the Week: Mathew Faoasau

UCSD

The Principal’s pick this week for Student of the week (January 11-15, 2016) is Mathew for the following reasons:

Mathew has been an outstanding addition to our school and we are thankful that he is a student at UCSD. He is endlessly polite, respectful, and considerate of his classmates, teachers, and everyone in the school. Mathew is an extremely hard worker who can be counted on in each of his classes to work hard and to always strive to do his best. Thank you Mathew for helping to create a great school climate in Unalaska. Keep working hard and good luck throughout your sophomore year. ~Mr. Wilson, Principal

Mathew has worked very hard this year in math. He has applied himself to learn the new concepts and curriculum the class requires. Mathew also participates in basketball and being new to the game he has picked it up well. All in all, Mathew has transitioned well into the school and continues to work hard to strive for improvement. Keep up the good work Mathew. ~Mr. Russell, Math Teacher/Coach

For many people, arriving at a new school might be stressful. Then, add a new country and a new language; a person, understandably, might feel over-whelmed. However, Mat has been up to the challenge. From the first day, he has been at ease in the classroom and with his classmates. During the first week of school, each student had to get up and give a two-minute speech. Although English is not his first language, Mat immediately got up and made his presentation. Every day, I admire his desire to do well and how he not shy about asking for help, when he needs it. Congratulations, Mat. I’m proud of you. Keep striving to do your best. ~Ms. Anderson, ESL Teacher

Mathew is family member of Tofa & SialofiMatautia.
