Unalaska's Fire Department has been selected for two prestigious awards by the Governor's Alaska Council on Emergency Services; Gov. Mike Dunleavy's public health emergency disaster declaration is set to expire on Nov. 15, but health care providers and local governments say they need that declaration, which allows them to better respond to the pandemic; and Unalaska's International Longshore and Warehouse Union is hosting its second annual haunted house this Saturday.

Hailing from Southwest Washington, Maggie moved to Unalaska in 2019. She's dabbled in independent print journalism in Oregon and completed her Master of Arts in English Studies at Western Washington University — where she also taught Rhetoric and Composition courses.
