My Name is David Michael Gregory, I have lived in Unalaska since 1975 when I arrived to attend my Senior year of High School. I graduated from Unalaska High School in 1976 and attended the University of Alaska in Fairbanks, Alaska from 1976 thru 1978.
I started my working career as a dish washer in one of the local processing plants the summer I arrived. I later worked for Coe Whittern and ADF&G over the summers while I was in College. In 1979 I started my Fire Service Career with the City of Unalaska. In 2003 I retired from the Fire Service and took a job with the Ounalashka Corporation as their Land Manager. I continue to work for OC today.
I have been married for 39 years to Okalena Patricia Lekanoff-Gregory, together we have two grown children, James who works for GCI, and Delores who works for APIA. My brother Steve is a School Teacher here in Unalaska, my sister Lori works as the Office Manager for Public Works, and my sister Linda works for the School in charge of the Food Services Program.
I have served on a number of Boards here in Unalaska, including the School Board, The Fish and Game Advisory Board, The Planning and Zoning Commission and the Historic Preservation Commission.
I currently serve on the Board of Directors of ROSSIA - Russian Orthodox Sacred Sites in Alaska and The Holy Ascension Cathedral Restoration Committee.
I have spent my adult life here in Unalaska and consider it my home. I have seen a lot of changes in Unalaska and I am interested in continuing to work to make Unalaska a great place to raise a family and earn a living. I enjoy being involved with the City and I want to continue that involvement as a City Council Member.
During my last term on the Council I worked to get the Fire Chief the status as a Director so that the Department could be run by the Fire Chief and not the Police Chief. I believe this has already greatly enhanced the Department and will continue to show benefits to the City for years to come.
I would like to return to the Council to focus on housing issues in our City, I particularly want to see changes to the Zoning Ordinance to encourage the development of housing that people in our community can afford. I think this can be facilitated by looking into the concept of Accessory Dwelling Units on existing lots, The Concept of Tiny Homes for lots that have room to add a dwelling and still met the setback requirements of the Code.
I look forward to working on this issue as well as all the other issues that arise and come before the City Council.
