Unalaska’s city manager may be on his way out.
After several closed-door discussions, the City Council has called a special meeting Wednesday to offer Dave Martinson a deal that would end his employment with the city.
Councilors haven’t acknowledged why they began reviewing Martinson’s contract earlier this month. But in a memo released Tuesday, Mayor Frank Kelty said there have been “major disagreements” between Martinson, Kelty, and the council over “the last six to eight months.”
“This has led to hard feelings that have made the working relationship very uncomfortable for both Manager Martinson and mayor and council,” said Kelty.
Documents show the council is planning to offer Martinson 25,000 in severance pay — on top of moving and travel costs — if he agrees to resign.
It’s unclear if he’ll take the deal or pursue negotiations. Documents indicate Martinson and the council disagree about whether he was asked to resign or volunteered to do so.
The City Council meets Wednesday at 6 p.m. at City Hall.
