Unalaska’s boys’ basketball team extended its winning streak this weekend, claiming the Ravn Alaska championship in overtime.
The Raiders beat Bethel 54-51 to earn first place in the tournament, in which they also trounced Houston (67-42) and Kotzebue (75-47).
The boys’ squad remains undefeated this season.
Meanwhile, the girls’ team finished the tournament 1-2, dropping games against Galena (46-55) and Kotzebue (32-71) while picking up a win against Houston (56-35).
Sophomore Alexis Magalong said the Raiders are still pushing for the top prize.
“We’re planning to head to state," she said. "Our girls’ program hasn’t been to state in more than 20 years, so we’re trying to do that this year.”
Magalong said the Bethel tournament helped prepare them for that challenge by providing an opportunity to face teams from larger schools.
"It’s really interesting to see different teams, especially from different classifications," she said. "Since we live so far out, it’s nice to be able to experience how other teams play around the state.”
The Raiders will be back in action Feb. 14-15 on the road. Their opponents are still to be determined.
