Friday, March 4 at 5 p.m. is the deadline for applications to this year's Aleutian Marketplace Competition.

Sponsored by the Aleutian Pribilof Island Community Development Association (APICDA) and the Aleut Corporation, the Aleutian Marketplace is a regional competition only open to current or former residents of Unalaska and 11 other Aleutian communities.

  • Unalaska's DMV office reopened today. The office is located in the lobby of the Public Safety Building, and is open from nine a.m. to four p.m. Monday through Thursday. The DMV clerk, Vickie Longan, says those wishing to visit the office on Fridays should call first as she usually schedules driving tests for that day. The office was closed for the month of February due to a staffing shortage.

Elder Summit In Anchorage

The Aleutian Pribilof Islands Association & Eastern Aleutian Tribes are hosting a Tribal Eldercare Services Summit, February 17th- 19th, 2016 at the Lakefront (Millennium) Hotel in Anchorage, Alaska. This much anticipated summit has been specifically coordinated to develop culturally appropriate and sustainable solutions, share innovative programs through best practices amongst tribal Elder services around the state and network among stakeholders.

In recent months, a mysterious plague has been affecting seabirds in Southcentral Alaska.

Hundreds of common murre seabirds have been flying inland. These black and white pelagic birds, which normally spend their entire lives in the sea or on seaside cliffs, are becoming stranded far from water, hungry and weak.
