Unalaska's girls' basketball team (1-4) will play their first home games of the season this weekend.
The Raiders host Sand Point on Friday, and Coach Casey Clausius said the teams haven't competed against each other in years.
"We don't know what to expect," said Clausius. "They are 1A. They're going to shoot a lot of shots. We're going to have to play good defense and work harder than them."
The girls are coming off their first win of the season against North Pole at the Delta Dean Cummings tournament. Clausius said they're hoping to add another.
"What we're trying to talk about is playing against a good zone and being efficient with the basketball in our hands," he said. "Keep the turnovers low, shoot good from the field, and I think we have a good chance of doing that."
Meanwhile, the Raider boys (3-2) will be on the road, traveling to Sand Point with Junior Varsity Coach Marc Sorenson.
"I think the whole idea of going out to Sand Point and playing these little local teams is getting these younger guys a little bit of playing time somewhere else," said Sorenson. "Putting the shorts and the jersey on for the first time — I think that's kind of the expectation of the whole trip."
As the Raiders take on Sand Point on Friday, KUCB will broadcast live coverage of both games on 89.7 FM. The boys play first at 6 p.m., followed by the girls at 7:30 p.m. Unalaska fans can also watch the girls' home game at the high school gym.
