This year’s Aleutian Tundra Golf Classic started as the remnants of Tropical Storm Omais swept Unalaska with gale force winds and driving rain. Six dedicated teams and a handful of volunteers braved the weather on Saturday. When the storm cleared on Sunday more teams joined the action.
The annual Tundra Golf Classic is a fundraiser for Unalaska Community Broadcasting. At preliminary count, the fundraiser brought in just over $11,000 from sponsorships, team fees, and skills contests.
Based on the honor system and score cards turned in at the end of the second day, the Tundra Trio, a team from the U.S. Coast Guard Marine Safety Detachment, won the tournament with a score of 10 under par. Second place went to North Pacific Fuel at 8 under par and third place to Harbor Welding at 5 under par. Dan Malec took the Closest to the Pin competition, at 4 feet 7 inches, winning him a personalized green Carhartt brand jacket. Our newest contest, the Instagram Selfie competition went
to Kyesa Robinson for her photo of a pyramid of people (and a giant inflatable Tyrannosaurus Rex), with Pyramid Peak in the background. She won 10 GB of Wi-Fi credit from OptimERA. Congratulations to all!
