Halloween festivities start this weekend with the opening of Teen Council's annual haunted house.
"We're trying to show our best haunted house yet," said Kiara Haist, a senior in the student leadership group organized by the city's Department of Parks, Culture, and Recreation. "We're really trying to get you guys scared."
Junior JR Go said council members are transforming the Burma Road Chapel into a spooky, zigzagging maze.
"I'm not going to spoil anything," he said. "But we have quite a few rooms planned, so you're going to experience quite a few different scares."
With the cost of admission at $5 per person, Senior Trevor Wilson said the haunted house is Teen Council's biggest fundraiser.
"The money is going towards putting on events for the rest of the year — events like the lock-in and Midnight Madness — so it's really important that we do a good job and get lots of people to come," said Wilson.
The haunted house is open Friday from 9 to 11 p.m. and Saturday from 7 to 10 p.m.
It will also open Wednesday for Halloween. Kids can trick or treat through the haunted house with the lights on from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. before normal scaring resumes from 7:30 to 10 p.m.
