If Josh Good's plan comes to fruition, locally brewed beer is coming to Unalaska. As the winner of the Aleutian Marketplace Competition, Good was given $20,000 in seed money to create the Unalaska Brewing Company.
On Monday, Good beat out two other finalists – Piama Oleyer’s “My Aleutian Home Assisted Living” and Priscilla Miller’s “Yin Yang & Aang Mobile Floating Food Truck” -- to secure the funds.
Sponsored by the Aleutian Pribilof Island Community Development Association (APICDA) and the Aleut Corporation, the Aleutian Marketplace is a regional competition open to current or former residents of Unalaska and 11 other Aleutian communities.
If opened, the Unalaska Brewing Company will be the first and only local brewery in the Aleutians. The closest craft breweries are in Anchorage, Kodiak, and Homer. Good believes his proposed business will be able to capitalize on the nationwide explosion of craft brewing.
Good hopes to be brewing by the spring of 2017.
