Following an undercover investigation, police have seized 3.5 pounds of marijuana from an accused drug dealer.
The Unalaska Department of Public Safety says Harmon “Danny” Fisher, 59, sold pot to undercover operatives seven times over the last several months — including once to a minor.
While commercial marijuana sales are legal in Alaska, Deputy Police Chief Jennifer Shockley said Fisher’s operation broke state law.
“It would similar to somebody selling alcohol they’ve illegally brought into the community tax-free, without a liquor license, and to people who are under 21,” said Shockley.
Fisher faces five felonies and four misdemeanor charges for misconduct involving a controlled substance. He’s being held on $5,000 bail.
Shockley said the drug bust also highlighted how easy it is for minors to buy pot in Unalaska.
“That’s definitely something we’re concerned about — the ease of access for youth to marijuana and potentially other drugs," she said.
Ten years ago, a federal court convicted Fisher of selling methamphetamine on the island.
