School Board Seat D: Harriet Berikoff

KUCB File Photo

My name is Harriet Berikoff. I moved here in 1965 from King Cove, and I have been here for 51 years.  I have two children who were born and raised here, Charlene Shaishnikoff and Emil Berikoff, Jr. .  They both graduated from Unalaska City School District.  I have 10 grandchildren. I am involved in the community with several boards including the Qawalangin Tribe, where I am Vice President, the Unalaska Senior Board , and the Ballyhoo Lions Club, where I am President . I have served on the Museum board, the Iliuliuk Clinic board, and the PCR board. I am now retired, but I formerly worked for the Aleutian Pribilof Island Community Development Association as the Community Liaison Officer for 20 years.  In that position, I handled scholarships for past graduated students, conducting interviews and filing reports to APICDA. Prior to that, I worked for the Unalaska City School District in the late 1970’s as a Janitor/Cook and I was on the school board for several years. I was involved with Camp Qungaayux when it first started, and I also helped start a mini camp involving the littler kids up to 4th grade. I have taught in the Elementary school as a part of the Culture program, teaching hand work and language, and I served on the Johnson O’Malley committee at one time.  I am a strong advocate for Elder Care in our community, I am share holder of the Aleut Corporation, and I am on the board of directors of the King Cove Corporation.

I am running for School Board because my priority is the education of our children, and I have a lot  of board experience. Now that I am retired, I have a lot of time on my hands and I can attend all of the meetings.
