School Board Seat C: Frank Kelty

Courtesy

My name is Frank Kelty and I am running for reelection to the Unalaska City School Board Seat C; I have lived and worked in Alaska for 46 years.  My wife Nancy and I have been married 34 years and we have one daughter, Joanne, who is a graduate of Unalaska City High School.  We also have three beautiful granddaughters who attend school in Unalaska.

I have many years of experience in city government and have served on a whole host of boards and commissions both locally and statewide; this experience has assisted me during my two years on the School Board and will be a benefit to the board in the future if I am elected.

I have served as a School Board member for the past 18 months.  I was appointed to serve on the board to fill a vacancy and I have found service on the School Board a very rewarding experience.   Prior to my appointment, and reelection last year, the School Board was one of the few boards in Unalaska that I hadn’t served on.

During my nine years as a City Council member and my ten years as Mayor, I was always a strong supporter of education funding and necessary capital projects for the district.  I have always had an interest in the school district, as my daughter spent 12 years there and I have three granddaughters attending school now. I served on the ad hoc School District budget committee for over 20 years and that service gives me the knowledge and background on current funding issues and future funding needs facing the district.

The quality of the education our children receive at Unalaska City School District is outstanding.  The District’s educators and staff members are some of the best in the state in my estimation. If reelected, the community will have a School Board member who will hit the ground running.  I have the experience and knowledge to advocate for the District’s needs both locally and in Juneau. This experience will be needed with the difficult funding situation facing the State of Alaska.

As many of you know I have been a dedicated community member for many years and wish to continue serve Unalaska.  As a School Board member I would ask for your support, and encourage everyone to vote on Tuesday October 4th 2016.

Thank You
