Raiders Cross Country Team off to a Running Start in Alaska State Preview

The young Unalaska Raiders Cross Country team traveled to Bartlett High School in Anchorage to compete in the Alaska State Preview on August 27th. There were a total of 30 teams and over 800 runners competing in four different races on that day.

All of the Raiders competed in the varsity races and ran against some stiff competition including some of the top 4A schools in the state. There were seven season personal records and two career personal records in the race on one of the toughest courses in the state. All of the Raiders should be proud of themselves.

The Raiders are a young up and coming team that was able to experience some pretty major competition. For most of them it was their first time seeing, or for that matter, being in a race with so many runners.

Trevor Wilson was our lead boy finishing 64th with a time of 18:14, Henry Simmonds finished 115th with a time of 19:40, Talon Shaishnikoff finished 117th with a time of 19:43 and Carey Boston Finished 129th with a time of 20:55. On the girls side of things, Mercedez Caudillo was our lead girl finishing 102nd with a time of 24:28, Hailey Wilson finished 104th with a time of 24:35, Bridget Nalam finished 113th with a time of 25:34 and Julieanne Berikoff finished 118th with a time of 26:10.

The Varsity Raiders will be traveling to ACS for the ACS 3K Class Races this Friday September 2nd and to Palmer High School for the Palmer Invitational on Saturday September 3rd

You can follow the Palmer races online on chronotrack.com. The boys will run at 2:15pm and the girls will run at 2:45pm. The rest of the Raiders will be hosting one of the Tustumena Invites on Saturday starting and ending at Kelty Field at 11:00am. Come and cheer them on or even run with them. Go Raiders!
