Museum Officials Host Open House

After months of closure, the Museum of the Aleutians (MOTA) will reopen to the public - at least for a few hours. The institution's governing board is hosting an open house this week for the community.

The museum has been shuttered since last fall, when former museum director and current city councilwoman Zoya Johnson was placed on administrative leave after items from the museum's collection were found in her home. Johnson resigned as the museum's executive director in November. Since then, the MOTA board has been in the process of hiring a whole new staff and overhauling institutional protocols.

According to city manager and MOTA board member David Martinson, this week's open house gives residents a chance to meet board members and learn "where we are headed," he said.

The open house takes place from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 11.
