Monday News Briefs: 03/21/16

  • Canceled flights over the weekend caused a delay in state court proceedings at theUnalaska Court. The clerk said a felony trial scheduled to start Monday has been delayed because of weathered-out flights. That means local jurors summoned to the court for potential jury selection will start Tuesday instead. Court Clerk Rebecca Duffy said jurors with summons numbered 352 - 435 are to appear at 8:30 a.m. and check in at the clerk's window; those holding 436 - 492 are to call in Tuesday at noon for an afternoon report time. Duffy advises all potential jurors to also call in Tuesday morning at 7:45 am in case of further changes. Potential jurors with summons numbered 1 - 60 and 493 - 600 are still considered in the jury pool; those jurors must call the jury line on Tuesday, March 22, after 5 p.m. for further instructions, Duffy said. The court anticipates the possibility that multiple felony trials - each requiring a jury - will start this week.
