Last Saturday at 1 pm, the Unalaska Public Library hosted an event to celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday.
Kids in kindergarten through 4th grade filed into a conference room the library staff had transformed into a whimsical meadow filled with bright pink crepe paper flowers and a multicolored tree.
Participants sat excitedly as the library staff handed out bundles of colored coffee filters and conducted a guided flower-making tutorial.
After a quick session of Seuss trivia curated by Librarian Karen Kresh, the main show commenced.
Carlos Tayag, Rhonda Anderson and several other members of the community self-identified as the newly formed, “Unalaska Theatre Troupe” and began a dramatic reading of Horton Hears A Who. Readers acted out the story with gusto and held masks of the characters from the book.
After the performance, Carlos did a theatrical reading of The Lorax for the crowd with plenty of opportunities for audience participation.
The event ended with a Seuss-themed cake and pink punch for all!
The full performance of Horton Hears A Who will be on this week's episode of Flash! Unalaska, Wednesday March 28th, Friday March 30th and Saturday March 31st.
