Unalaska City Council Member and former Mayor Frank Kelty was recently honored with an Excellence in Service Award from the Alaska Department of Fish & Game. Kelty was one of five recipients of the award this year, and was recognized for his many years of service to the Unalaska Advisory Committee.
According to the Department of Fish & Game: "Through 35 years of service, Mr. Kelty has been critical to the Unalaska Advisory Committee, revitalizing it in 2001 and serving as chair ever since. He has long led community participation to improve resources throughout the region, and has been instrumental in support of the Pacific cod fishery and protecting salmon and halibut stocks for local users."
The award is given to members who perform a service that is of high value to the advisory committee or board process, such as strong recruitment of new members, re-establishing a dormant committee, working towards consensus on divisive issues, or working well with the Department of Fish & Game, diverse user groups, or the public. Receiving the award highlighted Kelty's ongoing service and leadership in advisory committee functions.
You can hear Frank talk fish every Friday on KUCB 89.7 FM at 5 PM during the Unalaska Fisheries Report.
