Exciting Weekend of Home Basketball Games

Last weekend, the Dimond Boys’ JV and the Lumen Christi Lady Archangels played the Unalaska Raiders here at home for homecoming week. The games started Friday night with the Raider boys’ game against Dimond. The game was back and forth from the beginning and in the end, the game came down to the final buzzer. With seconds left, sophomore guard Trevor Wilson hit a clutch three to send the game into overtime. The Raiders ultimately won in overtime with a score of 52-45.

The girls’ senior night was Friday and the team honored their only senior, Marjamae Pili. Points were hard to come by in this hard fought and physical game. The leading scorers for the Raiders were Kayla Villamor with 10 points, Kiara Villamor with 10 points, and Hailey Wilson with 8 points. The Lady Raiders got the win on senior night with a score of 36-30.

The girls played first on Saturday.  This game was as physical as the last, but the Raiders were able to establish a good lead before halftime. The game’s leading scorers were again Kayla Villamor with 16 points, Kiara Villamor with 13 points, and Hailey Wilson with 11 points. The Raiders came out on top with a final score of 55-46.

In the last game of the weekend and the boys’ senior night, the team honored their seven seniors. All of the seniors acknowledged during the weekend have dedicated a lot of time to Raider basketball and will surely be missed. The starting lineup consisted of five seniors and all of the seniors on the team received playing time. The game was close from the beginning, with the Raiders trailing by four at halftime. The final seconds of the game involved a clutch three pointer made by senior NJ Seman to put the Raiders ahead by one. With a short time on the clock, a stop on the defensive end solidified the Raiders’ win. The final score was 56-55.

The next home games for Raider basketball will be on Feburary 24th and 25th against the Unalakleet Wolfpack.
